What we do
Our main aim is to promote our membership and to encourage the raising and maintaining of standards within our commercial sector. We do this through minimum standards of entry, our website, advertising, and attendance at exhibitions and events.
In addition, the ASSF works closely with the Scottish Government and other associated bodies. We have representation on:
The freshwater fisheries forum steering group
Fish introductions working group
Code of good practice working group
Bodies that are represented on the above committees include Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Natural Heritage, Marine Scotland, Fisheries Research Services, Association of District Salmon Fishery Boards, Scottish Anglers National Association, Fish Conservation Centre, British Trout Association, Institute of Fisheries Management, Salmon and Trout Association, Federation of Coarse Anglers, etc.
As well as being a lead body we have been a consultee and expert witness to the Scottish Government for the Aquaculture and Freshwater Fisheries Bill and the Strategic Framework for Scottish Freshwater Fisheries.
In the past we have also liaised with Visit Scotland and Central Scotland Wildlife Crime Unit.
