LAKE OF MENTEITH |
The Fishery. |
The large water expanse is well broken up its three islands, Inchmaholme with
its stunningly beautiful priory being the largest Dog Island, a favourite
fishing mark and the ancient stronghold of Inch Talla being the other two. |
StockingThe fishery is stocked with a minimum of 1,000 fish each week and although rainbows predominate this figure includes a generous quota of high quality brown trout which are much prized. In 2000 the average weight was an excellent 2lbs and this coming season the main stockings will be of fish in the 1.5 to 3lb range plus a considerable number of fish in the 3 to 5lb range. The fish are now well distributed all over the fishery. |
Facilities. There is a well-appointed Fishery Lodge with toilet facilities including provision for disabled anglers. There is a large spacious area, well heated with a wood-burning stove, where anglers can take their lunch in comfort during inclement weather. Tea and coffee making facilities are available, free of charge. |
Permit costs & bookings.

Fishing advice. With the improved stocking policy fish are now to be found all over throughout the year but during the early and late periods the Road Shore beats will tend to have larger concentrations of stock. Each season an ever increasing number of anglers are discovering that the Lake is a superb dry fly water due to its abundant fly life and clear water conditions. Favourite fly/lure patterns include the Cats Whisker, Ace of Spades, Viva, Sparklers, various Buzzers and Dries and a wide range of traditional wets like the Kate McLaren, Soldier Palmer and the Dark Mackerel are always worth a swim.
