LOMOND HILLS FISHERIES. |
The Fishery. |
For the fly fishing enthusiast Lomond Hills Fisheries provide a wonderful opportunity to test your skill, and fishing tackle, to the limit. Whether it be early season sunk line fishing with lures to spring and summer floatlining with traditionals, dries, buzzers and other imitative patterns the fishery always proves to be a real sporting challenge. Also, don't forget the "back end fishing" when deadly patterns such as the daddy can be tremendously effective with the superbly conditioned trout.Holl and Harperleas Reservoirs offer everything for the dedicated fly fisherman. Holl Reservoir is the largest in the complex at 42 acres and provides the highest quality fly fishing for both rainbow and brown trout. There are 12 boats available for hire and bank fishing is also allowed. Holl has gained a deserved reputation for free rising, hard fighting fish. Set high in the Lomond Hills, Harperleas Reservoir provides that "hill loch" experience without having to trek too far off the beaten track! This 39 acre water contains brown trout only (both wild and stocked) and can be fly fished from the bank or by boat. |
Stocking. The lochs are stocked weekly with rainbows including blues - a strain of trout that tends to take the aerial route when hooked!
The trout average 2lb 8oz but there is always the chance of a specimen trout well into double figures. |
